The Mobile CRM Convergence: Blame the Smartphones

PrintPrintEmailEmailPDF PDF

[The] incredibly user-friendly smartphone has captured the North American public's imagination and their wallets into the realm of mobile multimedia customer interactions. It has pushed competitors to make their handsets more user-friendly and functional.

Blame too the suppliers who are developing new user-friendly applications that are enabling their workforces and consumers to more fully utilize the wireless channel. These complete a virtuous circle that will prompt even more wireless use.

Blame also the expansion of 3G and faster networks and more competitive rates. Wireless has become so feasible and cost-effective that more households are dropping their landlines and that some businesses are not buying or are doing away with bulky laptops. Why have multiple boxes, phones, and connections when one multichannel go-anywhere device does it all?

The faster speeds are prompting more firms and users to deploy and enable browsers to access consumer and work applications in real time via the web, observes Angie Hirata, worldwide director of marketing and business development, Maximizer Software. More Web sites are becoming optimized for mobile users while instead of mobile-only browsers more devices now have full browsers that can render desktop applications, adds Vidya Drego, Senior Analyst, Forrester. Full browsing she says makes searches faster and easier.

Martin Schneider, director of product marketing, SugarCRM, says that in turn mobile browsers have sufficiently matured to enable bandwidth-intensive consumer activities like e-mail and view YouTube on iPhones and FLASH animations and JPEG files as on fixed computers. That bodes well for business applications which tend to but not always smaller: the exceptions being graphics-heavy fields such as media/entertainment.

"These innovations open the floodgates to anything you can do on a fixed desktop or laptop computer you can do on a mobile browser," says Schneider.

He has also seen mobile applications grow from a very limited set of uses such as warehouse...

Positivity: Houston D-Day veteran receives Legion of Honor medal

From Houston, USA and Normandy, France:

June 5, 2009, 8:33PM

Decades passed before Houston?"s Clyde Combs told his children he was part of the massive D-Day invasion when Allied troops fought past Nazi mines and machine guns to storm France?"s beaches and march on to liberate Europe.

Neither did he mention he was aboard a superfast attack craft on June 6, 1944, and helped protect the west flank of invading forces as they established a beachhead, fished dead sailors out of the sea, and hunted for German soldiers fleeing in the darkness.

The 84-year-old former Navy PT boat crewman didn?"t tell, he said, because he didn?"t think anyone cared.

?SIt wasn?"t considered a big deal,? said Combs, who still has a full head of hair and is probably lean enough to climb into his Cracker Jack uniform. ?SYou were in the war, and you made it back and whatever,? he said. ?SNo, I didn?"t discuss it.?

On Friday, Combs was inducted into France?"s prestigious Legion of Honor to commemorate the battle?"s 65th anniversary today.

With the passing of time, as the offensive was pushed into history books, public interest grew in events surrounding the D-Day invasion. A massive fighting force, including more than 150,000 personnel, 5,000 ships and 11,000 planes, pushed across the English Channel and roared ashore along the Normandy region?"s coastline.

?SThe invading armada was one of the largest armadas in the world?"s history,? Combs said. ?SAnd to have been a small, tiny part of it in any way is such a privilege.?

A train to Normandy

Combs and dozens of American D-Day veterans are back in France for the anniversary. They were awarded their Legion of Honor medals in a ceremony at Napoleon Bonaparte?"s tomb.

The veterans are to mark D-Day with a train ride to Normandy, for a ceremony and gathering during which Combs is to meet President Barack Obama as well as the leaders of Canada, Britain and France.

Combs and one other Navy veteran, who was on a landing craft that day, are expected to offer brief remarks at one of the events at the hallowed beachside cemetery, where more than 9,300 American service members are buried. Combs said he plans to speak from the heart but has no prepared remarks.

Combs would be the last to say he was special. As he sees it, then 19, he was doing his part at D-Day, doing the job he was trained to do.

The real heroes are the thousands of service members killed on D-Day, he said.

About 10,000 Allied service members died that first day of the battle, including 1,068 sailors.

?SThere are others far more deserving than I,? Combs said. ?..

Go here for the rest of the story.

The New Hampshire Formula

PrintPrintEmailEmailPDF PDF

I know some liberals will object, but the inclusion in a same-sex marriage bill of an explicit exception for religious organizations seems to me to be a powerful combination, which both assures civil equality and religious freedom, which seems to be the main fear of those who oppose equality. I notice too that a poll just taken in California comes to the same conclusion:

When asked, 'Do you strongly favor, somewhat favor, somewhat
oppose, or strongly oppose allowing same-sex couples to be legally
married,' 47% say favor and 48% say oppose. Support for any given
ballot measure will depend on the specific language of that measure.
For example, results show that support increases if the language
specifically includes a provision that says no clergy will be required
to perform a service that goes against their faith.

I propose that any initiative wording in a future California ballot specifically include a religious exemption. It shows we are serious about religious freedom and a church-state divide.

Brew for the Tea Parties: ??Reagan?"s Unfinished Agenda?"

PrintPrintEmailEmailPDF PDF

teaparty2Over at NRO I have an article suggesting that the Tea Party movement adopt as its program what I am calling “Reagan’s Unfinished Agenda.” In one sentence, it describes a way of going on offense, and getting out of the defensive crouch that is the dominant posture of conservatives at the moment.

… starting in 1987, Reagan offered a more comprehensive package he called the ?SEconomic Bill of Rights.? In addition to the balanced-budget and line-item veto amendments, Reagan proposed three additional amendments that would impose a federal spending limit, require a two-thirds vote of the House and Senate for any tax increases, and prohibit wage and price controls.

IS CAROL HARRISON FOR REAL: Did This Women Just Come Out From Under The Obama Rock?

PrintPrintEmailEmailPDF PDF

I just received this following email from a woman that I cannot figure out if she is for real or she was trying to be funny! You decide. I guess Ms Harrison got the latest copy of the Globe while standing in line at the checkout line!

What President Obama 'did' when he was younger or didn't do, is irrelevant. If the White House knew what you were doing, trying to put out speculation about him being 'gay' and the spin the WH is putting out on him, you'd be hung, drawn & quartered and I'd be right there helping someone do it. 'Bloggers' like yourself, Larry Sinclair, are a dime a dozen and unlike some, I chose not to ignore your absurdities regarding President Obama's sexuality, rather....what's in this for you, except your 15 minutes of "Net"/'blogger' fame!!

Three Pounds Atop Your Head

PrintPrintEmailEmailPDF PDF

Edge interviews Jonah Lehrer:

The paradox of modern neuroscience is that the one reality you can't describe as it is presently conceived is the only reality we'll ever know, which is the subjective first person view of things. Even if you can find the circuit of cells that gives rise to that, and you can construct a good causal demonstration that you knock out these circuit of cells, and you create a zombie; even if you do that... and I know Dennett could dismantle this argument very, very quickly ... there's still a mystery that persists, and this is the old mind-body problem, but it?"s an old problem for a reason: we don't simply feel like three pounds of meat.
