PDF I know some liberals will object, but the inclusion in a same-sex marriage bill of an explicit exception for religious organizations seems to me to be a powerful combination, which both assures civil equality and religious freedom, which seems to be the main fear of those who oppose equality. I notice too that a poll just taken in California comes to the same conclusion:
When asked, 'Do you strongly favor, somewhat favor, somewhatoppose, or strongly oppose allowing same-sex couples to be legally
married,' 47% say favor and 48% say oppose. Support for any given
ballot measure will depend on the specific language of that measure.
For example, results show that support increases if the language
specifically includes a provision that says no clergy will be required
to perform a service that goes against their faith.
I propose that any initiative wording in a future California ballot specifically include a religious exemption. It shows we are serious about religious freedom and a church-state divide.

GM ALREADY ACTING LIKE OBAMA: GM CFO Says Company Is A Private Corporation And No Longer Has To Make Financial Statements Public
PrintEmailPDF Earlier today on Fox News General Motors CFO makes the claim that "GM is now a private company, and as a private company we are not required to provide financial statements..." Now I understand that private companies are not required to make public its financial information, but how is it that the CFO claims General Motors is "now" a private company?
Even though the CFO claims GM will comply with the requirements of TARP I do not believe the American people will consider the US Treasury owning 60% of GM as that making GM a private company!

No Surprise Here: Three Strikes Law Creates Opportunity For Encrypted VPN Services In France
PrintEmailPDF Just as we saw how stricter laws on unauthorized file sharing increased the demand for encryption services in Sweden, Dan alerts us to the news that new encryption services are popping up in France in response to that country's recent approval of a law to kick file sharers off the internet. And so the cat and mouse game continues. Perhaps at some point, rather than fighting new technologies and consumer wishes, some of these politicians and copyright holders will decide to embrace the technology and use it to their advantage. Otherwise, they're just going to find that they'll keep passing ever more useless laws, driving people to newer and newer technologies to get around those laws.
